Straight routing, or ‘hog’ routing as some call it, is a dimensional sign manufacturing process using CNC CAD/CAM equipment. The end result is SMOOTH recessed copy on a raised background or a SMOOTH recessed background with projected (raised) letters. This is achieved via router bits hogging out the predetermined area(s).
Backgrounds and text that are straight routed are not 100% smooth like glass. The paths of the router bit leave very subtle channels visible up close, even after sanding, but not visible at viewing distances. These processes are much more labor intensive than typical dimensional processes like V-groove routing or sandblasting. Because of the additional time req’d. to perform straight routing, we charge an additional cost for this service.
Straight routed signs are utilized often in park settings w/recessed text. In addition, straight routed backgrounds are often requested when a client wants raised lettering on a background without texture from sandblasting.
We recommend sending artwork for a custom quote when straight routing is requested
