Options and Add-ons for Dimensional Signs

The following lists some of the common add-ons to dimensional sign pricing not covered in the standard price guide.

This table can be used as a guide for pricing special shapes. However, factors such as number of sides routed and complexity of the shape will ultimately decide the final cost. This pricing is a guideline only. Final pricing is based on review of final artwork.

The best option for straight routed backgrounds is sign foam. If your customer demands redwood, because of increased routing time, there will be an additional charge of $12.50/sq. ft. per side.

Educate your customer. Due to the nature of redwood grain, the "fins" can range from wide to narrow, and knots are a probable element of their sign.

The customer needs to know this is permissible in "grade 1" redwood and cannot be determined prior to blasting. If varied grain or knots are a problem, consider using sign foam with a grain frame or pebble background, or consider using cedar, which yields a much less pronounced grain pattern.

Cedar is also varied in knots and grain, but not as pronounced as redwood. We also stock clear heart, vertical grain, western red cedar.

The minimum letter height should be 2" for sans serif (ie. Helvetica) fonts on dimensional signs. The minimum letter height for serif (ie. Times Roman) fonts is 3" due to the tendency of serifs to chip or break off during blasting due to the extremely narrow stroke widths. This is a rough guideline - final determination will be made from artwork.

PMS color matches can take up to 1-hour to match per color. PMS "c" color matches are produced with 1-shot® gloss enamel paint at a charge of $35.00 per color. We cannot match PMS "U" (uncoated) numbers.

We can not guarantee a 100% match.

Educate your customer about seams in sign foam for oversize signs that require additional material to be joined.

• We can produce a sign up to a 5' x 10' without a seam.
• A grain background is less likely to show signs of seaming.
• Use at least 2" thick sign foam for signs requiring seams.
• Additional charges apply (based on artwork)

Back bracing is not required for large or irregular shaped single sided wall mount signs (in most cases).

1.5" x 6" back bracing is charged at 17.50 a running foot with the braces usually placed three to four feet apart vertically.

Extra lead time is required for signs with double faces, extensive millwork, detail painting, clear and spar varnishes, etc. Explain to your customer why the extra time is needed as opposed to a "standard" sign. Extensive painting, increased drying times for multiple colors and varnishes, special mill work, etc. all take additional time to produce professional results.

The following is a guideline for pricing the extra time involved modifying a standard western red cedar post.
